He rose as a prominent actor in the year 1995 after featuring in the
Tamil thriller 'Aasai'. Then and now, after 23 years Ajith Kumar is a
brand in himself. The actor however, began his career as a supporting actor in a Telugu
film before entering the main stream cinema. The actor who hailed originally from north Hyderabad has been born and brought up in Chennai. His films 'Kadhal Kottai' (1996) and 'Kadhal Mannan' (1998) were the
most notable ones. His role in the film 'Kadhal Kottai' was hugely
appreciated. Ajith is one actor who has only gotten hotter with age! We must say the
star wowed audiences this time around last year with his salt and pepper
look in 'Mankatha', something no other Tamil actor would dare to pull
off!Apart from films, Ajith is also known for his long running media built rivalry with actor Vijay and his controversial statements on a few occasions. The actor strongly believes in his films doing the talking and stays away from the promotions. His film 'Billa 2' has been sold for Rs 40 crore, which again is the highest in his career! The actor remains a popular figure in the media of Tamil Nadu. He personal life made headlines. After the success of his first film 'Aasai', the actor played the lead role in 'Kalloori Vaasal'. And as many remain curious, Ajith got his nickname Thala from his appearance in the film 'Dheena', co-starring Laila Mehdin and Suresh Gopi.
Ajith has also won the Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actor for the 2001 film Poovellam Un Vasam. The actor's 'Billa 2', a prequel to 2007 blockbuster 'Billa' showcases the incidents that leads David into becoming a dreaded don. While 'Billa' was a slick flick it is the prequel saw Ajith as a commoner and also in a suave avatar. Ajith is an avid race car driver covered circuits in Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi .
